GUIDED BIOFILM THERAPY (GBT)

Gold Standard in Dental Hygiene

We use Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT), a revolutionary, minimally invasive cleaning technique designed for maximum comfort and effectiveness. GBT is ideal for children as it provides:

  • Gentle, pain-free cleaning using air-polishing technology
  • Stain and plaque removal without harsh scraping
  • Improved gum health with targeted bacterial removal
  • A fun and engaging approach to dental hygiene, helping children understand the importance of oral care

Routine hygiene visits are essential to prevent cavities, gum disease, and plaque buildup. Meera and our team take the time to teach children and parents the best techniques for brushing, flossing, and maintaining a cavity-free smile.

In addition to regular visits to the hygienist, maintaining a strong daily routine is crucial for keeping children’s teeth healthy. Here are our top tips for a child-friendly dental hygiene routine:

1. Brushing Twice a Day

  • Use a fluoride toothpaste (at least 1000ppm fluoride for children under 6, 1350-1500ppm for older kids).
  • Encourage brushing for two minutes, morning and night.
  • Use a soft-bristled toothbrush or an electric toothbrush for better plaque removal.

2. Flossing Once a Day

  • Start flossing as soon as two teeth touch to prevent decay between teeth.
  • Use child-friendly flossers for an easier grip.

3. Eating Tooth-Friendly Foods

  • Encourage a balanced diet rich in dairy, fruits, and vegetables.
  • Limit sugary snacks and acidic drinks, especially between meals.
  • Drink plenty of water to help rinse away food particles and bacteria.

4. Supervise Brushing & Encourage Independence

  • For younger children, help with brushing until they can do it effectively on their own (around age 7).
  • Make brushing fun with reward charts, music, or apps.

5. Consider Additional Protection

  • Fluoride varnish and sealants can provide extra protection against cavities, especially for molars.
  • Our team can advise if these are suitable for your child.

For children undergoing braces or Invisalign® treatment, maintaining good oral hygiene is crucial. GBT helps keep teeth and gums clean around brackets and aligners, reducing the risk of decay and gum inflammation during treatment.
