CHILDREN’S ROOT CANAL TREATMENT IN TUNBRIDGE WELLS, KENT

At 78MPR Dental Practice in Tunbridge Wells, we understand that saving a child’s natural tooth is always the best option whenever possible. Dr Mohsin Chaudhary, our Specialist Paediatric Dentist and Consultant, provides expert children’s root canal treatment (pulp therapy) to relieve pain, prevent infection, and preserve developing teeth.

Why Would My Child Need Root Canal Treatment?

Children’s teeth, especially baby (primary) molars, play a crucial role in maintaining space for adult teeth and ensuring proper development of the jaw and bite. Root canal treatment is necessary when:

  • A deep cavity has reached the dental pulp (nerve and blood supply inside the tooth).
  • The tooth has been damaged due to injury or trauma.
  • There is persistent toothache or sensitivity.
  • Swelling or infection is present.

What is a Children’s Root Canal Treatment?

A children’s root canal (also known as pulpotomy or pulpectomy) is a specialised treatment designed to save and restore an infected or damaged tooth rather than extracting it.

  • Pulpotomy – Removes the infected pulp tissue from the crown of the tooth while keeping the healthy pulp in the roots. The tooth is then sealed and restored, usually with a stainless steel or tooth-coloured crown for strength.
  • Pulpectomy – In cases where the infection extends deeper, the entire pulp (including the roots) is removed, and the canals are cleaned, disinfected, and filled with a safe material to support the tooth’s function until it naturally falls out.

Following root canal treatment, we provide detailed aftercare guidance to support healing and maintain oral health. Most children resume normal activities quickly, and the treated tooth will function comfortably until it naturally exfoliates or is replaced by an adult tooth.

Dr. Mohsin Chaudhary specialises in treating children with a calm, compassionate approach to ensure they feel safe and comfortable throughout the procedure. Our team uses:

  • Gentle, minimally invasive techniques

  • Child-friendly explanations to help young patients feel at ease

  • Local anaesthesia for a pain-free experience

  • Sedation options, if needed, for anxious children
